A small crowd gathered as the four of us installed our mural, “Together We Make Herstory” on an outside wall at my studio on 8th and Mountain Road this past Saturday! It was cold and windy but we had so much fun putting up our colorful prints with wheat paste (a common technique used by Oaxacan printmakers) and they are expected to endure the elements for at least six months. 
We are hoping to extend the project into other communities and settings.
Stop by the Julianna Kirwin Printmaking Studio this Saturday, April 17 at 10am to see our new mural being mounted on the outdoor wall along Mountain Road and 8th St! Four women have created hand printed portraits of eight women. “We each chose two women that we wanted to showcase in our mural titled Together We Make Herstory,” states Lena Weiss. Pictured in the mural are Georgia O’Keefe, Dolores Huerta, Deb Haaland, Augusta Savage, Friedl Dicker-Brandeis, Amanda Gorman, Emma Gonzalez and one self portrait.

This week I made a hand printed map of Mountain Road using the technique of linocut. It was quite a project (!) trying to fit the local businesses, museums, art studios and restaurants into a regular sized paper and do it more or less to scale. The map covers a span of Mountain Rd from Rio Grande to 4th street. I’m going to distribute this map to our local coffee shops and art studios, and I’m hoping that people will want to walk down our road, and visit my studio of course!
So happy to have gotten the notice in late November that my piece, Ancestral Corn, was selected by the Albuquerque Arts Board to be purchased by the City Public Arts Division! There were a lot of entries so I feel very blessed to have been selected, especially during this time when it is nearly impossible for artists to show their work in person. Thanks to my friend Ilene who urged me to submit to the Infuse-2D Call.

Please join me for this 2-day workshop outside in my patio Sept 12 and 13. Experience the different kinds of lines created by each carving tool and learn to roll out the ink evenly onto the surface of the linoleum. We will use a variety of colors of ink that clean up with water. Masks are required.
I’m enjoying printing on muslin cloth my hand carved designs from original linocuts! Laila Cola Weeks does the sewing and we donate 10% of sales to the Road Runner Food Bank. They can be purchased for $20 on my store page.
I’m printing 40 cloths today so that they can be used for the reversible masks sent by Laila Cola Weeks. I first do the background in orange or blue and then the designs in black. We’ve gotten many orders and its still going strong! 10% of sales go to Road Runner Food Bank.
