New Banners on Mountain Road!

They’re up! You can learn all about our local history through this Public Art Project: Banners on Mountain Road 2020. Each banner was an original woodblock print created by neighbors and local artists in the area! The project, “History of the Neighborhood Through the Eyes of Contemporary Artists” is now in its second year. Take a drive or a stroll down Mountain between 5th and 12th streets and learn about each banner image at www.friendsofmountainroad.com

Making Prints From Sticky Foam Sheets

Making prints from sticky foam sheets is a very simple and rewarding process. All you need to do is make your drawing on the backing of the foam sheet, cut it out, peel off the backing, reapply the shapes to another sticky foam sheet, and roll with ink. Then turn over the sticky foam onto your paper underneath, rub carefully to all edges and when you remove it-there’s your print!

Printing the Blue Hollyhock bags

Happy to announce my new series of flower linocut prints on cotton bags! These tote bags with bottom gusset and strong handles hold a lot of groceries and necessities in a beautiful bag that is reusable and environmentally friendly. You can wash this bag and the colors will remain permanent. Support your local artists-purchase this bag and others from the collection!

Banners on Mountain Road 2020

Mountain Road Banners 2020 needs your support! We are hoping to get the banners installed on lampposts by May 2nd! New Banners for Mountain Road Lamp Posts

Mountain Road Banners 2020 is a community project involving our history and the talents of thirteen local artists! Each banner image is an original woodcut print representing an aspect of our neighborhood history. The artists each made a drawing, transferred it to the wood, carved the wood, inked it and put it through the press. Then each of those woodcut prints were photographed and enlarged into banners for the twenty six lampposts between 5th and 12th streets on Mountain. The project means so much to the artists and community!

“This new set of banners once again brings the history of our road and our city to life, making it possible for all of our visitors to see!” says Julianna Kirwin, project organizer. “History of the Neighborhood Through the Eyes of Contemporary Artists is a Public Art Project funded in part by the City of Albuquerque, and local businesses… and is now in its second year.”
